WESTERVILLE – The Wilmington College softball team dropped both ends of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday to nationally-ranked Otterbein at Rike Field, 3-0 and 8-2.

The host Cardinals did all of its damage with two outs, including a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to record the 3-0 win in the opener.

Sophomore Savannah Hooper, sophomore Becca Carpenter and sophomore Chandler Fields had hits for the Quakers.

Carpenter (4-11) allowed three earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work.

Otterbein scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, thanks in part to two Wilmington errors, and broke open a one-run game, 8-1.

Carpenter had both Wilmington RBI and had the first multi-hit and multi-RBI game of her career.

Hooper finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored, and has now had multiple hits in 14 games this season. She extended her hitting streak to seven games and has recorded a hit in nine of the last 10 games.

Senior Megan Warren was 3-for-4 and sophomore Courtney Mackey was 2-for-4 with a run scored. It was the second three-hit game of the season for Warren.

Sophomore Beth Persicano (2-5) took the loss, surrendering five runs (three earned) on seven hits in four innings in the circle.

Wilmington (10-20 overall, 2-12 OAC) travels to Marietta 1 p.m. Saturday for an OAC twinbill.
