Rain dampens Blan meet but not girls 4×800 relay

BLANCHESTER — The Blanchester Invitational track and field meet was shortened by storms that rumbled through the area Friday and both BHS squads came out on top.

With six events completed, the Blanchester boys finished with 53 points while runnerup Lynchburg-Clay scored 48 points.

On the girls side, six events in the books, Blanchester finished with 59 points while Lynchburg-Clay, again the second place team, had 51 points.

The BHS girls 4×800-meter relay quartet of Mckenzie Hamm, Olivia Gundler, Emma Gundler and Savannah Rhodes established a new school record of 10:28 in winning the event Friday. The foursome held the previous record.

Mandy Gerlach was third in the 100-meter dash (14.1) and fourth in the discus (83-0). Destiny Pence finished as runnerup in the 100-meter hurdles (18.3).

In the high jump, Alexis Sutherland was fourth (4-2) and Sarah Burton finished fifth (4-0).

In the long jump, Asia Baldwin was second (13-4.25) and Cheyanne Rhodes was third (13-4.25).

In the discus, Morgan Deless was second (95-0) and Regan Ostermeier (94-4) was third.

For the boys, Dakota Fisher edged teammate Derick Bowman for first place in the 110-meter high hurdles, 17.4 seconds to 18.8 seconds.

Joey Holcomb was first in the shot put (45-11) and Matt Grogg was fifth (34-0). Ramiro Torres scored in the long jump with a sixth-place finish (15-3.75).

Quenton Miller was runnerup (5-4) in the high jump. Dale Sturgill was third in the 100-meter dash (11.8) and teammate Sam Schafer was fifth (12.0).
