ADAMS TOWNSHIP — In one of the wildest volleyball matches in memory, Clinton-Massie lost its season opener to Hillsboro Monday night 25-27, 25-22, 26-24, 23-25, 13-15.
The defeat came in the coaching debut of Emilie Fisher who took over the CM program from Stephanie Reveal, who has retired.
“It was an exciting and fun match to watch,” said Fisher. “It felt like we were just two steps behind the entire game and if we got a lead, we lost our focus and maybe expected Hillsboro to roll over. Our communication began to lack and mistakes continued to multiply and it allowed Hillsboro to chip away at our lead. Hillsboro was a scrappy and tough team. They played hard.”
Natalee Hillman finished with seven kills, 15 aces, eight set assists and three digs to lead the Falcons.
Kinsey Beam had 12 kills and 13 digs. Laila Davis had six kills, four set assists, six digs and four blocks. Breckin Harner had two kills, two digs and two blocks.
Anna Jones totaled three kills and a dig. Mackenzie Peters recorded eight kills and three blocks. Maddie Phipps had three digs.
Maddie Ward came up with 15 aces, five assists and a dig. Olivia Ward had a set assist and two digs. Holly Young had a kill, two aces, seven assists and 12 digs.
“I’m happy with the fight the girls showed,” Fisher added. “They played hard til the very last point. Now we know what we need to work on moving forward. We were close to ending it in all sets. Just couldn’t capitalize on Hillsboro’s mistakes and just had a tough time finishing.”
