BLANCHESTER — Blanchester and Batavia played to a 1-1 tie in non-league boys soccer action Saturday at Barbour Memorial Field.

Blanchester went up 1-0 on a free kick from Aaron Abirached to Shane Akers, who placed the ball opposite the Bulldogs goalkeeper in the first half.

Batavia tied the match midway through the second half.

Zach West, the BHS goalkeeper, had 13 saves, including a key save on a penalty kick with one minute left to play, coach Kyle Hamilton said. West was, however, injured on the play, Hamilton said, but BHS managed to play for the tie.

”Each game we seem to be getting a little bit better and today despite the high temperatures we played tough at home,” Hamilton said.
