WILMINGTON — Exploding for four goals in the first half, Unioto defeated Wilmington 5-1 Thursday in a non-league boys soccer match at Alumni Field.

The Sherman Tanks scored first off two penalty kicks, sandwiched around a WHS goal by Caleb Macias. Nathan Wood an assist.

“Unioto was impressive,” WHS head coach Imad El-Macharrafie said. “We surrendered two early penalty kicks and you just can’t do that against a team of the caliber they have. Our boys showed some composure in tough conditions and this is a game that we just have to learn from and get better. We steadied things in the second half and played a much more even 40 minutes.”

The loss is the first of the season for the Hurricane, who now stands 4-1-2 on the year.
