EC shrugs off slow start, beats Hillsboro in 4

HILLSBORO — Despite struggling early, East Clinton came alive and defeated Hillsboro 20-25, 25-14, 25-6, 25-22 Monday in non-league volleyball action at the HHS gym.

“We started very slow; it was definitely a Monday,” EC coach Sarah Sodini said. “The second and third sets were where we played Astro volleyball. Jozie Jones, Trinity Bain and Kelsi Lilly really stepped it up for us and were difference makers on the court.”

Jones had three kills, a block and a dig. Bain finished with seven digs. Lilly had 10 kills, a block and two digs.

The Astros are 9-1 on the year.

Megan Tong had two aces, 21 assists and two digs. Savannah Tolle contributed 16 digs and Eryn Bowman chipped in an assist and two digs. Libby Evanshine had an ace, 17 kills, three blocks, 16 assists and eight digs.

McKenzie Pence had three kills and a dig. Lydia Kessler finished with five digs. Jordan Collom had two aces and nine digs. Lauren Runyon recorded 11 kills, an assist and two digs. Kami Whiteaker had an assist.
