CENTERVILLE — The Wilmington High School tennis season ended Friday at the Div. I Centerville Sectional tournament at Centerville High School.

Hurricane freshman Jonathan Fender won a couple of matches to advance to the quarterfinal rond but was knocked out of the tournament by No. 3 seed Jack Diehl of Springboro.

Matt Keiter lost his first singles match 6-0, 6-0 to Bendel of Fairmont. Austin Embree also dropped his singles opener 6-0, 6-0 to Nathan Fullington of Centerville.

In doubles action, Drew Moyer and Brady Henry battled Sam Songer and Garrison Williams of Bellbrook but came up short 6-2, 7-5.

The pairing of Sam Stephenson and Jack Romer were defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Fairmont’s Nick Fantaci and Nate Powers.

Fender, one of four underclassmen to play in the sectional tournament for Wilmington, opened with a 6-0, 6-2 win over junior Keith Kordowski of Lebanon.

The WHS freshman then fought off sophomore Trey Singleton of Miamisburg 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinal round. A win there would have put Fender in next week’s district tournament.

But Diehl maintained his high seeding by ousting Fender 6-0, 6-1 to move on to the semifinal round.
