Hickey headed to Region 4 meet next week

DAYTON — In a steady rain, Wilmington High School competed in the Div. I Dayton District Track and Field Championships Friday night at Welcome Stadium.

Just one of the Hurricane athletes who competed Friday was able to advance to next week’s Region 4 meet at Welcome Stadium.

Ashlynn Hickey had a best effort of 34-3.5 in the shot put and finished fourth overall. The senior will compete in the Region 4 meet May 27 at Welcome.

The top four in each event advance to the regional meet next week.

Nic Hayward was seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.17 seconds. Megan Borton finished seventh in the 100-meter dash in 13.34 seconds.

Simon Heys finished 13th in the 1,600-meter run, clocking a 5:00.26. Bayden Stephens was 18th in the 3,200-meter run in 11:31.46.

In the girls 800-meter run, Hailey Fugate was 21st in 2:56.36 and Heather Fryman was 22nd in 2:59.87. Lauren Heard was 15th in the shot put with a toss of 30-4.5.

In the boys shot put, Nathan Taylor finished 10th (37-8.25) and Gage Smith was 18th (35-3.75).

Katie Lambcke was scheduled to compete in the pole vault but because of the rain the event was postponed to 2 p.m. Saturday. Because of a family commitment, Lambcke will not compete in the pole vault, WHS coach Roger Ilg said.
