Blan girls set another record at district meet

The Blanchester girls 4×400-meter relay team set a school record with a gutty performance Saturday at the Div. II Dayton District Track and Field Championship at Welcome Stadium.

The Ladycats foursome of Mckenzie Hamm, Olivia Gundler, Emma Gundler and Asia Baldwin ran 4:16.61 and finished fourth. The group held the previous record of 4:18.24.

“They are a very competitive group,” BHS coach Tony Blevins said. “I have been impressed with them all year.”

The Blanchester boys track and field team competed in the Div. II district meet at New Richmond High School.

Derick Bowman was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.37 seconds. He was eighth in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.77 seconds.

For the girls, Rhodes earned a berth in the regional meet by finishing fourth in the 3,200-meter run. Her time was 12:27.84.

The top four in each event in the district meets advanced to the regional meet.

Emma Gundler ran 64.83 and finished sixth in the 400-meter dash.

Olivia Gundler and Mckenzie Hamm went 6-7 in the 800-meter run, with both athletes breaking the previous 800 record. Gundler finished in 2:28.96 to set the new standard for BHS in the event and Hamm hit the line in 2:29.12. The old record was 2:29.4.

Baldwin was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 27.37. Regan Ostermeier was seventh in the shot put with a best of 31-5.75. Morgan Deless was 14th in the shot put at 27-1.5

Prior to Saturday, Blanchester qualified to the Region 8 meet Joey Holcomb in both the shot put and discus; Morgan Deless in the discus, the girls 4×800-meter relay of Hamm, Olivia Gundler, Emma Gundler and Rhodes. They broke their own school record in advancing to the next level.
