BHS tennis match at Madeira suspended

MADEIRA — The Blanchester High School girls tennis match with Madeira Monday was suspended by inclement weather.

The Ladycats were late arriving at the Madeira Swim and Tennis Club because the team bus broke down on the way to the match, coach Matt Sexton said.

“We didn’t get much time to get warmed up,” he said. “Having said that, we’re not playing poorly.”

Blanchester was on top in one match. Brooke Honaker at first singles led Michelle Fisher 3-1.

“Brooke is playing very well,” said Sexton. “She has improved both in the mental game as well as physical from a year ago.”

Sexton said Emily Speakman and the doubles team of Erin Wilson and Lilly Tedrick were also playing well. The other two courts “were not outmatched” by their Lady Mustang rivals.

“I’m really encouraged about where we are and what kind of season this could be,” said Sexton.
