Blan girls take first at Blanchester Invitational

BLANCHESTER — Led by Savannah Rhodes, the Blanchester High School girls cross country team won the Blanchester Invitational Wednesday on a soggy two-mile layout on the BHS campus.

The varsity course was reduced to 3,000 meters rather than the normal 5,000 meters because a portion of the course was under water because of the rain that fell throughout the morning and early afternoon Wednesday.

Wilmington was fourth in the girls race while East Clinton was fifth. Clinton-Massie did not have a complete team.

Blanchester had Rhodes fourth (12:59.02) but she was closely followed by Mckenzie Hamm (13:18.63) in sixth and Olivia Gundler in eighth (13:22.92).

Katie Hughes was the first Clinton-Massie runner, placing eighth in 13:25.59 while Hailey Fugate was the first Lady Hurricane to hit the line in 13:59.19 and finishing 12th place.

In the junior high school girls two-mile race, Clinton-Massie’s Emma Muterspaw was first overall in 13:01.07 while Carah Antek of East Clinton was 12th in 14:51.86, Kenzie Campbell of Blanchester was 45th in 16:18.79 and Jenna Taylor of Wilmington’s Rodger O. Borror Middle School was 49th in 16:26.57.
