BLANCHESTER — The East Clinton tennis team spoiled Blanchester’s Senior Day festivities Monday with a 3-2 win in a non-league match on the BHS courts.

The loss puts the Ladycats at 11-6 on the year. East Clinton wraps up its regular season with a 4-9 mark.

Seniors Brooke Honaker, Emily Speakman and Megan Weber were honored.

“All three seniors have done so much for our program over the last three years,” BHS coach Matt Sexton said. “As much as I’ll miss their tennis contributions, I’ll miss them as people first and foremost. They’re all just wonderful people that I’ve enjoyed spending so much time with and I’m going to miss them tremendously.”

Honaker improved to 17-4 while Speakman is now 19-4 following wins on Monday.

Weber and EC’s Emily Tong battled back and forth with Tong finishing on top 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Weber trailed 0-3 in the third set before rallying to make it 3-3.

“Give credit to Tong for being able to turn the momentum again in the third set,” said Sexton. “It was a good match and both players played very well.”

The win was the first varsity victory for Tong.

EC swept the doubles matches with Kylee Hidy and Shelby Michael winning at first doubles and Haley Harrell and Sydney Michael posting a win at second doubles.
