Hillsboro may come into Friday night’s game with a 1-6 record, but East Clinton head coach Jeremy Yankey is concerned with the Indians style of play.
“Hillsboro is another team that likes to line up and run the ball right at you and play physical so we will need to show up and be ready to be physical,” EC head coach Jeremy Yankey said.
Hillsboro will be celebrating its Homecoming Friday night against East Clinton. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Richards Memorial Field.
Yankey said his Astros “were not ready to play the physical style of football that Miami Trace brought to the game” in last week’s 61-0 blowout.
That’s why Yankey is more concerned with the way the Indians play than their 1-6 record. East Clinton is 0-7.
Last week, Yankey said Austin Arellano punted well for the Astros. Beyond that, “Nearly everything we did was bad,” he said.
The Indians have shown several different defensive fronts over the past few weeks. Coached by former Blanchester head coach Jack O’Rourke, the Indians will blitz their linebackers to pressure the East Clinton backfield.
Yankey said the Hillsboro kicker was injured a few weeks ago and the special teams have suffered somewhat because of it.
Though winless, East Clinton had played a brutal schedule thus far. After a 1-6 Batavia team, East Clinton’s next six opponents are a combined 32-10.
The next two weeks, however, East Clinton gets 1-6 Hillsboro and 1-6 McClain.
“We need to continue to keep focused and practicing hard to try to have success this season, I feel like it is very important for the future of the program going forward into next season,” said Yankey.
