WEEK 10: Massie ends SCOL dominance with 69-13 win

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Clinton-Massie completed a decade of South Central Ohio League dominance and locked up another gold football emblematic of an undefeated league season with a 69-13 victory over cross-county rival East Clinton Friday.

Tonight was the last SCOL football game for the Falcons (9-1, 6-1) and the Astros (1-9, 1-6). The league is finished because the Fayette, Ross and Highland County members of the conference are leaving at the end of the school year. Clinton-Massie, East Clinton and Wilmington will play football in the Southern Buckeye Conference next season.

Massie’s dominant SCOL decade includes …

• 60 straight victories, including a playoff win over Miami Trace. Only seven teams have come within two touchdowns of Massie during the streak.

• 40 straight home wins.

• A 74-2 record, 40-1 at home and 34-1 on the road.

The SCOL also was witness to two Massie state championship teams, including one that logged arguably the greatest season in the history of Ohio high school football. The 2012 Falcons went undefeated and racked up the most points in a single season in state history, regardless of division.

Overall since joining the SCOL, Massie’s record is a mind-boggling 131-18, winning a quarter of them by shutout. The Falcons held opponents to single-digits in a little more than half of them.

“It takes three parts – parents, coaches and kids. It’s a testament to them and our former coaches. I’ve been blessed to have (great parents, coaches and kids) in my 21 years here at Clinton-Massie,” CM head coach Dan McSurley said.

The Falcons (9-1, 7-0) were no less dominant Friday. They needed just 24 offensive plays and just 8:54 time of possession to build a 56-0 halftime advantage. East Clinton (1-9, 1-6) had minus-7 yards of offense in the first half.
