INDIANAPOLIS — Clinton-Massie High School graduate Sydney Brackemyre was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference women’s basketball player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Brackemyre, a junior at the University of Indianapolis, averaged a double-double while shooting 52 percent from the field and adding three blocks per game in the Greyhounds’ two season-opening wins last weekend.
The University of Louisville transfer and former five-star recruit was dominant in her first game as Greyhound, pouring in 20 points on 10-for-15 shooting and hauling in 16 rebounds in a 70-59 win against visiting Findlay Friday night.
The 6-1 Brackemyre followed that with 14-point, 10-rebound performance in a 57-56 victory against Walsh Sunday. Her fourth and final block of the game came on a potential game-winning field goal attempt with three seconds to go to help preserve the win.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Kristin Drabyn, the NCAA Div. II Greyhounds are off to their first 2-0 start since 2012.
