HILLSBORO — Emma Gundler sparked a second quarter uprising that led Blanchester to a 53-35 win over Hillsboro in non-league girls basketball action at the HHS gym.

The Ladycats improve to 3-0 with the win.

Emma Gundler had eight points in the second quarter as Blanchester broke open a close game. The two teams were tied at the end of the first quarter, 8-8, but then the Ladycats outscored the Lady Indians 20-7 in the second quarter and took control of the game.

“The only times was a little disappointed was the beginning of first quarter and beginning of third quarter,” BHS head coach Bennie Carroll said. “But the rest of the time we got after it pretty good.”

Asia Baldwin and Dakota Watters led BHS with eight rebounds each. Emma and Olivia Gundler had six rebounds each.

Elecia Patton had five steals while Emma Gundler came up with four steals. Savanna Greene led the way with five assists in the victory.

The Blanchester defense forced no fewer than 23 Hillsboro turnovers.

Hillsboro chipped away at the deficit in the third but Patton scored five of her six points in the fourth quarter as BHS outscored HHS 17-9 in the final frame.

“We were pretty good in transition,” said Carroll. “I thought we did a better job of looking up the floor and we made some pretty good passes in transition.”
