The Clinton-Massie Middle School girls basketball teams both lost two games this week to Waynesville and Washington.

The eighth grade lost to Washington 40-28. Clinton-Massie led 8-5 after one quarter but trailed 18-17 at halftime. Coach Joe Davis said foul trouble sidelined Massie’s two ball-handlers. The Blue Lions pulled away in the second half. Avery Cranmer had a season-high 13 points for the Lady Falcons while Miranda Crawford added six. Amanda Wilson had the lone three-pointer for CMMS while Johanna Davidson and McKenzie Avery had two points each.

The seventh grade was defeated 48-16 by Washington. Coach Davis said his squad continued to play hard despite being pressed the entire game by Washington. Ashley Doyle led CM with eight points and Lauren Potts scored four. Allie Morris had three points and Riley Wahsum rounded out the scoring with a free throw.

On Wednesday, Clinton-Massie played Waynesville. The eighth grade lost 31-27. Avery led with 12 points and Natalie Lay had six points. Coach Davis said his team played tough defense against the Lady Spartans.

“This team is improving,” Davis said. “We have had three different people score in double figures this year. We need them all to do it in one outing and the others to come through as I know they will.”

The seventh grade was defeated by Waynesville 19-2.
