BLANCHESTER — Sierra Drake scored two goals in a short span late in the first half as Blanchester defeated Williamsburg 4-2 in Southern Buckeye Conference National Division action at Barbour Memorial Field.

Drake’s goals gave Blanchester a 3-1 lead at halftime. Assists on the Drake tallies were by Aubrey Jordan and Tristan Culberson.

Jordan scored the first BHS goal of the game with Emily Hinkle getting the assist. Hope Schaljo of WHS tied the match at 1-1 before Drake put the Ladycats up for good.

However, Williamsburg made a game of it in the second half and nearly tied the match at 3-3.

WHS beat the Blanchester defense, coach Kurt Ballinger said, with a long ball over the top and had an open net.

“But defender Mckenzie Hamm made the play of the game by racing back and clearing the ball moments before it crossed the line to hold the lead at one,” said Ballinger.

Jordan then put the game away with her second goal “off a rocket from the edge of the box,” Ballinger noted. Chloe Caplinger was credited with an assist on the goal.

Regan Ostermeier had eight saves in goal for BHS, now 2-1-1 overall and 2-1 in the SBCN.
