Lady Falcons falter in third, drop one to Blue Lions 54-37

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Washington used a big third quarter to turn the game around and defeated Clinton-Massie 54-37 Monday night in a South Central Ohio League game at the Lebanon Road gym.

The Lady Falcons are now 5-11 overall and 1-9 in the SCOL. Washington is 5-8 overall and 4-7 in league play.

“We played a great first half,” CM coach Tim McGraw said.

The Lady Falcons led 25-22 at the half.

“I felt like we took it to them but only led by three,” McGraw added.

The Lady Blue Lions outscored the Lady Falcons 19-7 in the third and took a 41-32 advantage into the final period. It was still a nine-point game with 2:13 left before Washington “hit some shots” down the stretch, McGraw said, to extend its lead.

Faith Cottrell and Madilyn Newton both had 8 points for Clinton-Massie. Newton was injured in the fourth quarter and that “really hurt us,” said McGraw. “She does a lot for us and brings the intensity we need, along with Emily (Ireland).”

Ireland had a solid all-around game with a team-best 4 assists and a team-high 3 steals.
