Dunbar dunks Clinton-Massie, 100-81, in tourney tilt

KETTERING – Eighty-one points would have beaten any opponent on Clinton-Massie’s schedule this season.

Except the team the Falcons faced Monday in the Division II sectional at Kettering Fairmont’s Trent Arena wasn’t just any opponent.

That opponent was perennial power Dayton Dunbar, ranked fourth in the final Associated Press boys basketball poll. The Wolverines (20-3) scored 100 points and put five players in double figures, three of them with at least 20 points.

Massie’s 81 points were the second-most it scored in a game this season, missing the top mark by two. The previous high score by an opponent was 76.

Storm Cook led Dunbar with 21. Chris Jackson and Devon Baker each had 20. Caleb McDowell and Joseph Scates chipped in with 13 and 12, respectively.

Griffin Cook led the Falcons (11-13) with 24 points. Trey Uetrecht and Nick Chowning added 15 each.

Dunbar never trailed and led by as much as 30, 82-52, with 1:03 left in the third quarter. It gradually built its cushion not by one or two huge runs but more by multiple smaller quick bursts of 9-1, 9-2, 9-0, 9-0 and 8-2.
