Stacy triple leads WC women to fifth at Transy

LEXINGTON, Kentucky- The Wilmington College women’s track and field team opened the outdoor portion of their season Saturday at the Transylvania Invitational. Of the 10 competing teams, the Fightin’ Quakers finished fifth, with a total of 104 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Brooklyn Payne (Chicago, IL/ Chicago Agricultural School) turned in the team’s first top-five finish of the afternoon. Payne earned fifth in the 100-meters with a time of 13.82.

Freshman Kacey Burns (Milford Center, OH/Fairbanks) slid into the top-five with a fifth-place finish, as well, hers in the 800-meters with a time of 2:36.13.

In the 5,000-meters, freshman Allison Helmke (Defiance, OH/Tinora) earned fourth, crossing the finish line in 22:50.30.

Two Fightin’ Quakers finished in the top-five in the 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Emma Burke (Hilliard, OH/Darby) clocked in at 16.46 for third, while junior Ashely Lovett (Washington Court House, OH/Washington Senior) earned fifth with a time of 17.34. The pair also competed in the 400-meter hurdles. In that event, Lovett finished fourth with a time of 1:10.81 and Burke fifth with a 1:11.43.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Sarah Pierce (New Carlisle, OH/Dominion Academy) earned fourth with a time of 13:55.31.

Burke, Burns, and Lovett teamed up with freshman Cheyenne Rhodes (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) for a 4×400-meter relay. The quartet earned fifth, completing the race in 4:23.18.

In the field events, junior Lauren Stacy (Bethel, OH/Western Brown) swept the competition away. Stacy earned first in the shot put (11.33-meters), discus (38.37-meters), and hammer throw (44.65-meters). In addition, Stacy finished fourth in the javelin throw with a toss of 28.19-meters. In total, her finishes scored 35 points for the team.

In the hammer throw, freshman Baylee Stentman (Mt. Oran, OH/Western Brown) joined Stacy in the top-five, earning fourth with a toss of 40.41-meters.

Senior Angela Dorsett (Pittsburgh, PA/West Mifflin) earned fifth in the triople jump with a jump of 9.74-meters.

Sophomore Cierra Johnson rounded out the top-five finishes for the Fightin’ Quakers by snatching a fourth-place finish, as well. Hers in the long jump, with a distance of 4.95-meters.
