HAMILTON — Unable to generate any offense, the Wilmington High School softball team fell to Badin 4-0 Monday in a non-league match at Joyce Park’s Carl Schatt Field.
The offense troubles started in the first after Sophie Blessing reached on a hit and was able to get to third before being stranded.
“To be able to score early is a big advantage psychologically but we weren’t able to do that,” said WHS coach Glen Blessing. “Their pitcher kept everybody off-balance.”
Wilmington had just two hits, Blessing’s first inning single and a sixth inning single by Lyla Self.
The Lady Hurricane is 1-2 to start the season.
“We’re really pretty young,” Blessing said. “We have four freshman on the field. Any big stage game we can get early, going into league, is going to help us. Ultimately, we hope it’s for a post-season run.”
