HILLSBORO — The East Clinton baseball team opened South Central Ohio League play Wednesday with a 14-1 loss to Hillsboro at Richard Shaffer Park.

“Mental mistakes and errors cost us today,” EC coach Brian Carey said. “When we give them four outs an inning, it is really hard to beat any team.”

Despite that, Carey said the Indians took advantage of what the Astros were giving them.

“Hillsboro hit the ball very well and found the gaps,” said Carey. “They were a very good fastball hitting team. We have to have confidence in our abilities when we get down and fight back. We will forget about this, move on, practice hard and get ready for Washington Courthouse on Monday.”
