Curless, defense key Ladycats win over Lady G-Men

BLANCHESTER — Maddie Curless pitched seven solid innings and drove in two runs at the plate as Blanchester defeated Georgetown 4-1 Wednesday in a Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division game.

The Ladycats are now 4-3 overall and 4-0 in the National Division.

“This game, like the other wins, came down to pitching, defense, and timely hits, bunts,” BHS coach Jamey Grogg said. “Maddie pitched another solid game and the defense behind her was outstanding.”

Grogg said one of the top defensive gems of the game came in the seventh inning. On a pop foul, BHS catcher Kassidy Abney went for the ball but it bounced off her glove. However, first baseman Hannah Mann was right there to catch the ricochet.

“I have to give Hannah a lot of credit for not giving up on the play and being in the right place at the right time,” said Grogg.

Elecia Patton, while lying on the ground, made a backward over-the-head flip to Shayla Sicurella to get a force out at second base, Grogg said.

“To win ball games, you need to be consistent on the routine plays and sometimes make a few great plays along the way and we did both tonight,” said Grogg.
