CHILLICOTHE — Chris Wolary hit a grand slam to spark Wilmington’s 11-3 win over Chillicothe Wednesday in South Central Ohio League baseball action at Hansel Field at Chillicothe High School.

The Hurricane moves to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the SCOL with the win.

Brett Bell went five innings on the mound to earn the victory. He struck out five, walked two, gave up five hits. None of the three runs he allowed were earned.

Stephen Krause pitched two hitless innings, striking out two.

“We committed eight errors,” WHS coach Dustin James said. “Through the first seven games, we did not commit eight total errors. Our pitching really bailed us out of some tough spots.”

Wolary’s blast gave Wilmington a 4-1 lead “and we never looked back,” James said. “It was good to see him get it going. He has started slowly but we know what he is capable of and he showed that tonight.”

Wolary finished 3-for-5 with a double, homerun and five runs batted in.

Krause had two hits, including a double, and stole two bases. In addition, he reached via a hit by pitch. Drew Carey drew a pair of walks. Zach Wyrick had two singles.

Alex Meyer, Chad Davis, Kyler Reed and Nate Lakes had one hit each for Wilmington.

“We were able to overcome mistakes,” James said. “Physical mistakes happen at times, but tonight we committed too many mental errors that then turned into physical errors at times.”
