AMELIA — Jacksson Waialae tossed a four-hitter Wednesday as Blanchester defeated Clermont Northeastern 5-1 in a Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division game at Midland Field.

The game was part of the Reds Futures Showcase.

Blanchester is 9-5 overall and 6-0 in the National Division. Clermont Northeastern drops to 10-9 overall and 4-3 in league play.

Jacksson, who earned game MVP honors, struck out 10 Rockets and walked just two.

“What a gutsy performance from Jacksson,” said BHS coach Aaron Lawson. “He was matching their pitcher pitch for pitch. And once we grabbed the lead, he was able to get stronger.”

Neither team scored until the fourth when CNE took a 1-0 lead. Blanchester responded with a run in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

“We really didn’t get any offense going until late,”’ Lawson said. “With two outs in the fifth we were able to cash in a hit batter with an RBI double (by Waialae). In the sixth everything seemed to go right. We were able to turn on our timely hitting in that inning which ended up being the difference in the game.”

Jack Davidson drove in a couple runs for BHS while Dylan Fawley, Dustin Howard and Waialae also had RBI.
