HILLSBORO — Clinton-Massie fell short with its seventh inning rally and lost to Hillsboro 6-5 Friday in South Central Ohio League baseball action at Shaffer Park.

The loss was the first of the year in the league for the state-ranked Falcons. Massie, No. 20 in the first statewide baseball poll, is 13-3 overall and 8-1 in the league.

The Falcons have a big SCOL showdown Monday at Wilmington, whose only league loss is a 1-0 weather-shortened game.

“We struggled through the middle innings again,” CM coach Brian Camp said. “We just have to be a little better in the middle of the game. We have to produce some runs to keep the pressure on.”

The Falcons led 3-0 early but then Cayse Cameron, Hillsboro pitcher, slammed the door on Massie until the seventh. He struck out 11 CM batters.

“He pitched a real good game for them,” Camp said. “He was just on top of his game.”

The Indians scored a run in the second then four in the third to take the lead for good.

In the seventh, Massie scored a pair of runs but was unable to tie the game.

“We had an opportunity in the seventh but it didn’t work out,” said Camp. “We kept battling, just couldn’t get that tying run across.”

Luke Richardson had three hits and Max Murray had two hits with three runs batted in. Jacob Wolf also had a hit.

Aric France started on the mound and took the pitching loss.
