WILMINGTON — Bouncing back from a loss to league leader Clinton-Massie on Monday, the Wilmington High School baseball team battered Hillsboro 9-1 Tuesday on the WHS diamond in South Central Ohio League action.

“It was good to see us bounce back after yesterday’s loss,” WHS coach Dustin James said. “Our players listened and focused on Hillsboro today rather than dwelling on the loss to Massie. I was very proud of the way we came out. (Stephen) Krause threw a great game and our defense made great plays, including a (Ryan) Hottinger over the shoulder lay out deep in left center to save two runs. We have a lot of games left in the week and the kids are excited to play.”

Wilmington is 10-4 overall and 9-2 in the SCOL.

Krause picked up the win, going five innings with three strikeouts and three hits allowed. Alex Meyer pitched the final two innings.

Meyer had two hits and a walk at the plate. He scored two runs, stole a base and drove in a run.

Nate Lakes had three hits with an RBI and run scored. Krause, Brett Bell and Chris Wolary all had two hits. One of Wolary’s safeties was a two-run blast in the fourth to put WHS up 8-1. He also doubled, scored twice and drove in three runs.

Krause had a triple and two RBI. Bell stole a base, walked and knocked in two runs. Drew Carey had a hit and a walk.
