Massie beats Trace, weather 1-0; clinches 4th SCOL title

EBER — For the fourth straight year, the Clinton-Massie softball team sits atop the South Central Ohio League.

With a 1-0 weather-shortened win over Miami Trace Friday, the Lady Falcons improve to 13-0 in the league with one game remaining, at home Monday against East Clinton.

The state-ranked Massie squad is 22-1.

“Miami Trace played a great game tonight,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “Fortunately we were able to put a run across in the first inning. We had numerous weather delays and every effort was made to get this game finished. Unfortunately the weather would not cooperate.”

The game was called as Clinton-Massie was getting ready to bat in the sixth inning, Lauer said.

Taylor Florea dominated on the mound, striking out nine in five innings and allowing just two hits.

“I’m very proud of my girls effort,” said Lauer. “We struggled a little at the plate but our defense and pitching was good.”
