Richard, boys 400 relay win SBAAC JH titles

GOSHEN — The Blanchester Middle School boys and girls track and field teams both finished fifth at the Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference junior high school track and field championship meet at Goshen High School.

On an extremely windy day, the lone Blanchester individual champion was Blake Richard, who went 16-3.5 in the long jump to top the field by nearly 12 inches, coach Brad Ballinger said.

Richard also was a member of the league champion 4×100-meter relay team that finished first. Other team members were Carter Stevens, Shane Smith and Brady Phillips.

For the girls, Becca Kratzer was second in the 100-meter hurdles and Haley McEntire was second in both the high jump and long jump.

Also finishing second for the young Ladycats was the 4×100-meter relay team of McEntire, Kenzie Cottle, Noe Tangonan and Shilynn Massie.

Kratzer was third in the 200-meter hurdles. Savanna Schutte was third in the pole vault and sixth in the long jump. Cottle was fifth in the 100-meter dash, Caili Baumann was sixth in the 400-meter day and Lana Roy was eighth in the shot put.

The 4×200-meter relay team of Cottle, Roy, Madi Berrien and Emma Winemiller finished fourth while the 4×400-meter relay team of Baumann, Winemiller, Kratzer and Roy finished seventh.

On the b0ys side, Stevens was second in the 110-meter hurdles and eighth in the discus. The 4×200-meter relay team of Gage Huston, Gavin Colebank, Richard and Phillips finished second.

Smith was third in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 200-meter hurdles. Brady Phillips was fourth in the 100 and Taylor Cochran was sixth in the pole vault.
