Wildcats let one slip away late 7-6

MADEIRA — Up 5-2, Blanchester was unable to hold the lead and lost to Madeira 7-6 Wednesday in a Division III sectional baseball game at MHS.

“That is a tough one to swallow after being up 5-2,” BHS coach Aaron Lawson said. “We had them right where we wanted them when they pulled there starter (Sam Wirsing, a Wright State signee) and ended up scoring four on their relief pitcher. We simply gave them to many free bases late. Walks, an error, passed balls then a bloop and a blast later they take the lead. Really unfortunate we let that one slip away.”

The Wildcats finish the season with a 14-9 record.

Jared Monhollen hit a two-run homer for the Wildcats for his 100th career hit. He is the BHS career record-holder.

Even thought Blanchester was the higher seed, the game was moved to Madeira High School because the BHS field was not playable.

“I am very proud of this group for hanging in there and never giving up,” Lawson said. “They were faced with a lot of adversity this season and every time they were able to overcome. I am going to miss these six seniors. They have given so much to this program and have been unbelievable role models to the underclassmen. I wish them nothing but the best.”
