OXFORD — No. 5 Clinton-Massie rolled to its 25th win of the season Thursday, defeating Talawanda 10-1 in a Div. II sectional game at Talawanda High School.

Massie advances to the sectional championship game 5 p.m. Tuesday at Springboro High School against either No. 1 seed Monroe or No. 4 seed Tippecanoe. Those two teams will meet 5 p.m. Friday.

Clinton-Massie, 25-1, is the No. 3 seed in the sectional and No. 5 team in this week’s Div. II state poll.

Talawanda finishes its season with a 6-17 record.

“This game was originally scheduled for our place,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “It was unfortunate that we had to travel to Talawanda and play the game but we needed to get it in with how crazy the weather has been.”

The sudden change of venue didn’t damper the Lady Falcons bats or the arm of Taylor Florea. Florea tossed a five-hitter, striking out 12 and allowing an unearned run. She did not walk a batter.

At the plate, Massie led 3-1 going to the third then exploded for seven runs to break the game open.

“That third inning was a big for us,” said Lauer. “We were able to put some hits together and make some good base running decisions to push some runs across.”

For Claire Carruthers deuces were wild — she had two hits, two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Florea drove in two runs as did Ashlie Miller. Hailey Clayborn had two hits and Kelsey Carter scored two runs. Lindsey Carter had two hits and scored twice.
