DAYTON — Jessica Haynie is Wilmington’s first regional qualifier of the season.
Haynie was runnerup in the girls discus Wednesday at the Division I Dayton District Track and Field Championships at Welcome Stadium.
Haynie had a best toss of 105-7 and will compete in next week’s regional event.
The top four in each final advance to the Division Southwest Regional meet next week at Welcome Stadium.
Ryland Bowman had a good meet for the Hurricane. He advanced to the finals on Friday in the boys 100-meter dash (11.92) and the boys 200-meter dash (23.95).
Nic Hayward also qualified for Friday’s final in the boys 110-meter high hurdles. He clocked a 16.18 in the Wednesday prelims.
Field events will begin at 5 p.m. Friday and includes boys high jump and shot put, and the girls shot put, long jump and pole vault.
Running event finals will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Gus McCarty of WHS cleared 13-0 but because of misses finished fifth in the pole vault competition.
Competing in Wednesday’s finals but not advancing to the regional meet were the girls 4×800-meter relay (Allen, Burt, McCord, Bray) 11:29.97; Katie Lambcke in the high jump (4-4); Micah Ferguson in the pole vault (10-0); Bowman seventh in the long jump (21-0); Hayward eighth in the long jump (20-10); Garret Hickey in the boys discus 107-10; Derek Davis in the boys discus (94-9); Aaliyah Huff was fifth in the girls discus (96-7)
Competing Wednesday but not advancing to Friday’s finals were the boys 4×200-meter relay (Burton, Stephens, Hayward, Bowman) ninth in 1:37.27; Veronica Ilg 19.71 in the 100-meter hurdles; Allie Kees 20.92 in the 100-meter hurdles; Zach Bradshaw 17.76 in the 110-meter hurdles; Anna Borton 14.71 in the girls 100-meter dash; Rachel Barker 15.78 in the girls 100-meter dash; the girls 4×200 relay (Borton, Mason, Barker, Burt) finished 10th in 2:02.72; Heather Fryman 6:35.8 in the girls 1,600-meter run;
