State-ranked Rams blank Falcons in ’17 finale 9-0

HAMILTON — State-ranked Ross started fast and never allowed Clinton-Massie in the game Thursday as the Rams ended the Falcons season with a 9-0 win in the Div. II Dayton 2 sectional championship baseball game at Hamilton High School’s Stang Field.

The Rams did not commit an error and Clinton-Massie gave them plenty of chances. Despite striking out eight times against unbeaten Tom House (8-0), the Falcons hit numerous balls hard. Every “at ’em” play the Rams were faced with throughout the day, they were up to the challenge.

“They have a good ballclub,” CM coach Brian Camp said. “They made every play defensively that they needed to make.”

The Rams, No. 5 in the state’s Division II poll, are 24-4 on the year and will face either New Richmond or Indian Hill 11 a.m. Saturday at Mason High School in the Div. II Mason 1 District championship game.

The Falcons finish their season at 20-9.

The game was the final in the high school career of seven CMHS seniors — Noah Greathouse, David Poynter, Aric France, AJ Perkins, Trey Leforge, Zach Dillow and Isaiah Turner.

“The seniors will be missed,” said Camp. “Their contributions and leadership on game day, at practice and in the classroom are appreciated and will be difficult to replace.”

Max Murray had two hits, including a first inning one-out double for Massie. The Falcons stranded runners on base in every inning against the hard-throwing House.

House retired the first CM batter in each inning, except the seventh.

Zach Arno, the Rams’ rightfielder, clubbed the big blow in the game, a three-run homerun in the first inning to put Ross on top 3-0. The Rams never looked back from there, scoring in the first three innings and in five of six innings.
