WHS’s Haynie, Bowman advance to regional meet

DAYTON — Wilmington’s Jessica Haynie and Ryland Bowman will continue their track and field seasons next week in the regional meet.

Competing Friday in the Division I Dayton District meet at Welcome Stadium, Bowman and Haynie capped a good two days on the Montgomery County track

Bowman was third in the boys 200-meter dash, clocking a 22.96 and finishing 0.56 of a second off the winning time of 22.4. He also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.65 seconds.

Haynie, who also qualified to the regional meet in the discus, finishing as the event runnerup, was fourth in the shot put competition with a best toss of 33-2.5

The top four finishers in each event at the district meet advance to next week’s Div. I Southwest Regional meet, also being at Welcome Stadium. The regional meet will be held Wednesday and Friday.

Competing in Friday’s final but not advancing to the regional meet next were Nic Hayward, sixth in the boys 110-meter high hurdles (15.92); Simon Heys, 16th in the boys 1,600-meter run (4:51.75), and 16th in the boys 3,200-meter run (11:00.53); Tyler Parks, 18th in the boys 1,600-meter run (5:06.84); Heather Fryman, 17th in the girls 3,200-meter run (13:59.61);

Also, Hailey Fugate, 19th in the girls 3,200-meter run (14:47.37); Tyler Hebb, 18th in the boys 3,200-meter run (13:24.85); Rachel Barker in the girls long jump; Lauren Heard, 20th in the girls shot put (25-4); Conner Barton, 18th in the boys shot put (36-1.25); Derek Davis, 20th in the boys shot put (35-6.25); Katie Lambcke, 12th in the girls pole vault (8-0).
