WHS grad Roberts earns All-Horizon League baseball honor

Chad Roberts, a Wilmington High School graduate, earned first team All-Horizon League honors this spring as a member of the Northern Kentucky University baseball team.

Roberts, a junior at NKU, was the league’s top designated hitter. In 18 Horizon League games as a DH and eight more as a first baseman, Roberts hit .284 with a .529 slugging percentage.

Among his 29 hits were eight doubles and five homeruns. Roberts scored 20 runs and drove in 20 runs. Roberts had two games this season of four RBI, including a recent game at Oakland University where Roberts’ three-run homer helped the Norse sweep the Golden Grizzlies.

The Northern Kentucky season ended at 25-33 this weekend with a pair of losses in the Horizon League tournament, one to second seed Wright State, 12-2, and another to No. 5 seed Oakland, 12-5.

The Norse finished third in the Horizon League regular season standings. It was the best finish for NKU since transitioning to NCAA Div. I status.

For the season, Roberts played in 56 games, hitting .259 (49 for 189). He had six homeruns and 36 runs batted in. He had 15 doubles, two triples and scored 33 runs.

Last season, Roberts played for Sinclair Community College and helped the team finished third in the NJCAA Div. II College World Series. For the season, Roberts hit for a .352 average, a .446 on-base percentage and 74 hits with 13 home runs and 67 runs batted in.
