Roberts drives in 8 as Chillicothe wins 18-4

Chad Roberts drove in eight runs Sunday as the Chillicothe Paints defeated West Virginia 18-4 in a Prospect League game.

Roberts, a Wilmington High School graduate, homered twice, including a grand slam, to lead the Paints to the top of the PL’s East Division.

Roberts is hitting .346 for the season, third best average on the team. He leads Chillicothe in homeruns (3) and runs batted in (23) through the first 23 games.

The Paints are 15-8 on the year.

Roberts also has scored 18 runs with six doubles and eight walks in 18 games.

The left-handed hitting infielder just completed his junior year at Northern Kentucky University where he earned first team All-Horizon League honors. Roberts was the league’s top designated hitter. In 18 Horizon League games as a DH and eight more as a first baseman, Roberts hit .284 with a .529 slugging percentage.

Among his 29 hits were eight doubles and five homeruns. Roberts scored 20 runs and drove in 20 runs. Roberts had two games this season of four RBI for the Norse.

For the season, Roberts played in 56 games, hitting .259 (49 for 189). He had six homeruns and 36 runs batted in. He had 15 doubles, two triples and scored 33 runs.

Last season, Roberts played for Sinclair Community College and helped the team finished third in the NJCAA Div. II College World Series. For the season, Roberts hit for a .352 average, a .446 on-base percentage and 74 hits with 13 home runs and 67 runs batted in.
