NORWOOD — Blanchester junior Bekah Sams scored her second consecutive hat trick Tuesday as the Ladycats defeated Norwood 5-3 in a non-league girls soccer match on the NHS pitch.

Sams scored three goals and now has 12 for the season. She has posted three hat tricks this year.

Emily Hinkle tallied the first goal of her career as did Sydney Scott.

Audrey Jordan and Taylor McQuitty had two assists each for BHS. Shauna Fiebing had one assist.

In goal, Regan Ostermeier made 12 saves before exiting the game and Sabrina Duncan made 10 coming off the bench.

Emma Gundler led the Blanchester defense in front of the two goalkeepers, coach Kurt Ballinger said.

Blanchester is now 7-2-1 on the year.

Sams kicked off her hat trick by scoring within the first minute of the match on a 20-yard toe poke, Ballinger said. The BHS lead went to 2-0 as Hinkle scored her first from McQuitty.

Norwood rallied to tie the match at 2-2 but Sams answered with her second goal and Blanchester held a 3-2 lead at the half.

Norwood threatened to tie the match. Ostermeier left following a collision in front of the BHS goal, Ballinger said. Duncan came in and made a diving same “from point-blank range” to keep the Ladycats on top.

Scott scored with Jordan notching her ninth assist of the season, 4-2 Blan. After a goal by the Lady Indians, Sams completed her hat trick with McQuitty assisting on a cross in the 70th minute.
