CANTON – The Wilmington College football was picked to finish 10th in both the Ohio Athletic Conference coaches and media polls following the league’s Media Day Thursday at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“Certainly not surprised, it was expected,” head coach Bryan Moore said about the preseason predictions. “Our kids aren’t put off by (the voting); they know the work that is ahead of them. We will say it over and over again … it’s more about us and what we are doing.”

Mount Union was picked by both the coaches and the media to win the conference. The Purple Raiders earned 26 of the 36 first-place votes by the media and eight of the 10 first-place votes by the OAC coaches.

In the coaches’ poll, Mount Union (80 points, eight first-place votes) was followed by defending champion John Carroll (74, two first-place votes), Heidelberg (60), Ohio Northern (54), Otterbein (52), Baldwin Wallace (38), Marietta (32), Capital (31), Muskingum (18) and Wilmington (11).

The Blue Streaks (327 points, nine first-place votes) also followed Mount Union (345, 26 first-place votes) in the media poll with Ohio Northern (265) coming in third. Heidelberg (244, one first-place vote), Otterbein (212), Baldwin Wallace (180), Capital (143), Muskingum (123), Marietta (101) and Wilmington (40) rounded out the preseason poll.

Wilmington was represented at the annual event by Moore and senior quarterback Luke Creditt.

The Fightin’ Quakers host Earlham 1:30 p.m. Sept. 2 at Townsend Field to open the season.
