For the second straight week and third time this season, Clinton-Massie faces a winless team. This week, 0-4 McClain visits Frank Irelan Field for the annual Clinton-Massie Homecoming game.

“Nothing really changes for Homecoming other than a lot of distractions,” said CM coach Dan McSurley.

Without fail in recent years, the Falcons (3-1 overall, 1-0 SCOL) have had little trouble putting those distractions aside on Homecoming or any other week once South Central Ohio League play begins.

Clinton-Massie has won 46 straight SCOL games, dating back to an Oct. 12, 2007, loss to Washington. At home, the Falcons have posted 33 consecutive SCOL victories. Miami Trace was the last SCOL team to defeat the Falcons and that was in the first-ever SCOL game on the CMHS campus, Sept. 23, 2005.

Overall, Clinton-Massie is 61-2 in SCOL varsity football games, 34-1 at home.

The Tigers started the year with two solid offensive performances. Despite losing to Adena and Unioto, McClain scored 60 points in two games.

But the last two contests have not been good offensively, scoring just seven points in each.

“Greenfield appears to be young and transitioning into a new coach,” McSurley said.

Jeremey Andrews, a former coach at Wilmington, is now the head coach at McClain.

In its 63-7 win over Miami Trace last week, Clinton-Massie rolled up 508 yards of offense, including 180 passing by Hunter Fentress. Of his eight completions, four went for touchdowns.

Davey Tunon returned to the lineup and rushed eight times for 119 yards and a score. Fentress had a 71-yard touchdown run. In all, the Falcons had 328 yards rushing on 33 attempts.

Jackson Grigsby and Jacob Wolf led the CM defense, recording 10.5 tackles combined. The defense also was bouyed by Tunon and a return to health of Colton Chandler, McSurley said.

“Adding Tunon and getting Chandler back healthy gives us a nice spark,” the coach noted.
