Ladycats net hard-fought 3-2 win over Astros

BLANCHESTER — A 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win by Alexis Vestal and Korie White lifted Blanchester to a 3-2 tennis victory over East Clinton Wednesday in a Southern Buckeye Conference Athletic & Academic Conference match on the BHS courts.

“I knew this was going to be quite the battle and it did not disappoint,” BHS coach Matt Sexton said. “Our first doubles team really has played two mentally strong matches in a row and it won them this match. They found a way when EC pushed back after the first set to steady themselves. That was a very entertaining match.”

The Wildcats are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SBC National. East Clinton drops to 0-2, 0-1.

Erin Wilson played “steady” at first singles and picked up a win for the Ladycats. Grace King and Kayla Allen won at second doubles.

For East Clinton, singles players Sydney and Shelby Michael were the two winning courts.

“This was a huge match in the league title picture,” Sexton said. “We know the next time it will be another great battle.”
