BATAVIA — After scoring eight goals in the first match, the Blanchester girls soccer team has hit a drought.

The Ladycats lost to Batavia 2-0 Thursday in a non-league match on the Batavia pitch. Blanchester has scored one goal in its last three matches, all losses.

Batavia scored first early in the match then took a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. The Lady Bulldogs dominated possession and had 18 shots in the first 40 minutes, Blan coach Kurt Ballinger said.

Regan Ostermeier played well in goal for the Ladycats and kept her squad in the game. She had eight “high-quality saves” in the first half, Ballinger said. Ostermeier finished with 18 saves.

Blanchester came out “with a much stronger spirit” in the second half. Sierra Drake and Taylor McQuitty “put in a tireless shift in the midfield to slow down the Bulldogs,” said Ballinger.

Blanchester is 1-3 on the year. Batavia improves to 3-0-2.
