NEW CONCORD — In the first meet of the season, the Wilmington College men’s cross country team won the Muskingum Invitational Friday.

Senior Hunter Stith hit the ground running, leading the Fightin’ Quakers, and the field, snagging the first-place overall spot with a time of 21:29.42 for the 6k race. This race was Stith’s first since suffering season-ending injury early last season.

Freshman Gage Clemens proved himself a force to be reckoned with for the Fightin’ Quakers, finishing second, overall, in his first ever collegiate race. He clocked in at 21:45.73.

Freshman Ryan Honkamp performed extremely well in his first ever collegiate race, crossing the finish line in fifth-place with a time of 22:22.08.

“I’m very pleased with how our team competed in the first meet of the year,” WC head coach Ron Combs said. “We have some work to do, but I like the potential this team is demonstrating.”

The Fightin’ Quakers take on Thomas More College at home 6 p.m. Thursday.
