GOSHEN – On the strength of three goals by Sam Spirk, the Wilmington High School boys soccer team defeated Goshen 3-0 Tuesday night in a Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic American Division match at Jim Brown Stadium.

Spirk now has 20 goals for the season and 100 for his WHS career.

Wilmington is now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the division. Goshen drops to 2-3-1 overall and 0-3 in the division.

“We were fortunate to win this game, via Sam Spirk’s scoring ability,” WHS head coach Imad El-Macharaffie said. “Looking at the big picture, we lacked the energy and know-how to defend against Goshen’s long balls in the air.”

Assists on Spirk’s goals were recorded by Eli Hicks, Seth Gundlach and Brady Vilvens.

El-Macharaffie said things won’t get any easier for the Hurricane when Batavia visits Alumni Field 7 p.m. Tuesday.
