Week 4 Preview: East Clinton at McClain

Aside from a fast start, East Clinton head coach Jeremy Yankey was not a fan of his squad’s 48-7 loss to Hillsboro last week.

“I didn’t like much from last week,” Yankey said. “It was really a lot like our week two game when we didn’t tackle on defense and moved the ball offensively but couldn’t get the ball into the endzone because we make poor decisions and failed to execute.”

The winless Astros seek their first victory of 2017 against winless McClain in Greenfield. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

“McClain likes to run the ball with senior Darius White,” said Yankey. “On defense, they are a base four-man front, led by junior Tanner Tite.”

White has 224 yards on 58 rushes this season while Tite has 28 tackles. Yankey noted senior kicker Camden Yates as a strong special teams player for the Tigers.

As members of the defunct South Central Ohio League, East Clinton defeated McClain 33-27 last season but lost 28-21 in 2015. The Astros also posted wins over the Tigers in 2014 (25-22) and 2013 (27-21).

On offense, EC has had little success running the football but the passing game has been solid. Yankey was pleased with the performances of his receiving trio – Wyatt Floyd, Patrick Dotson and Austin Rolfe, who combined for 19 receptions, 195 yards and a touchdown last week.
