SBAAC back and forth has Massie back on top

GOSHEN – In the back and forth race for boys golf supremacy in the Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference standings, Clinton-Massie is back on top.

And so is Massie senior Keith Mineer.

In the 18-hole league tournament Thursday at Eagles Nest Golf Course, Mineer set a school record for 18 holes and led the Falcons to a first-place finish.

With nine holes to play in league competition, Clinton-Massie has a five-stroke lead over Wilmington, 1,153 to 1,158, in the American Division standings. Clinton-Massie trailed Wilmington by two strokes going into the 18-hole event.

Mineer, who was three strokes off the top individual spot in the American Division, had a 3-under par 68 to earn tournament medalist honors.

In addition, the 68 broke Derek Osterbrock’s 18-hole Clinton-Massie record of 69 in 2001 by one stroke and it put Mineer up by six shots over Wilmington’s Jack Murphy for player of the year honors in the American Division.

The final nine holes will be played Tuesday at Deer Track Golf Course, a divisional match that was postponed earlier in the season. The individual and team champions will be decided then, if the match is played as scheduled.

Murphy was the medalist for the Hurricane on Thursday with a 77. Cameron Smart had a 78 and Hunter DeWeese came in with a 79.

Beyond Mineer, Massie got a 76 from Max Carnevale who along with Western Brown’s Tabor Tesmer was runnerup in the league tournament.
