Sam Spirk broke his brother’s Wilmington High School scoring record Thursday night in a 5-1 win over Washington Senior in South Central Ohio League boys soccer action at Alumni Field.

Spirk and teammate Charlie Schumacher both had two goals and two assists for the Hurricane. Wyatt Kessler had a goal and Ethan Powell notched an assist.

For Spirk the two goals give him 28 for the season, topping brother Jake Spirk’s single season WHS record of 27.

“Sam Spirk goes down in history for Wilmington High School this evening,” said WHS coach Imad El-Macharrafie. “His success is testament to his effort in the offseason and pre-season. We are fortunate to have him in the orange and black.

Wilmington is now 9-2-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the SCOL.

“We’re playing with a lot of confidence, which is what you need from a team as you get late in to the season,” said El-Macharrafie. “Another solid performance from our group of boys. Washington Court House showed us another 80 minute soccer game and made us work hard for this win.”
