Talk about your brutal schedules. East Clinton has been through as tough a schedule as any team through five weeks.
On Friday, the Astros open SBAAC National Division play against 1-4 Williamsburg. East Clinton will be celebrating its annual Homecoming at the game in Lees Creek.
East Clinton is just 1-4 but the losses have come against 5-0 Clinton-Massie, 4-1 Hillsboro, 4-1 Batavia and 4-1 Wilmington.
The Astros lone win came against winless McClain two weeks ago.
Williamsburg’s schedule has been tough, but not quite like East Clinton’s. The Wildcats defeated Paint Valley 21-20 in Week 2.
“Williamsburg is very similar to us in that we both have a roster of 30 players and are sophomore heavy with very few seniors,” EC head coach Jeremy Yankey said.
They lost the opener to 4-1 Batavia and have lost three games since then to 5-0 Goshen, 4-1 Hillsboro and 3-2 Minford.
While Williamsburg offers a break strictly from a record standpoint for the Astros, East Clinton will get back into a meat grinder the next two weeks with Fayetteville-Perry at 4-1 and Bethel-Tate at 5-0.
“As I have told our players, we are now beginning a new season playing four schools in a row that none of our players have ever seen before,” said Yankey. “After Friday there will be three teams in our league that will be 1-0 and we hope to be one of those teams.”
