Heys leads WHS runners at Buck Creek

SPRINGFIELD — The Wilmington High School boys and girls cross country teams competed Saturday at the Buck Creek Invitational.

The WHS boys, led by Simon Heys, were 7th in the final team standings. Springfield Shawnee won the meet.

The Lady Hurricane finished 12th overall. Springfield Shawnee also won the girls race.

“It was a miserable day, the coldest and wettest meet of the season so far,” said WHS coach Eileen Grosse.

For the boys, Heys clocked a personal best 17:28 and finished 19th overall. His time is the seventh best in WHS boys cross country history, Grosse said.

In all, the WHS boys had nine personal bests and 11 season best times.

Also, Allister Brausch 27th in 17:42, Carter Nichols 54th in 18:30, Ricky Dungan 63rd in 18:49, Ty Snarr 72nd in 18:55, Bayden Stephens 88th in 19:16, Ian Holmes 96th in 19:27, Drew Spendlove 133rd in 20:03, Tyler Hebb 149th in 20:38, Nic Hayward 167 in 21:01, Zach Bradshaw 183rd in 21:48, Zack Bueno 192nd in 22:00, Jackson Tofte 196 in 22:08, Austin Carey 211th in 22:40, Jonathon Fender 218th in 22:56, Andy Bush 219th in 22:58, Troy Oates 220th in 23:00, Bryant Bergefurd 226th in 23;14, Ryan Biscoe 231st in 23:20, Garrett Regan 233rd in 23:42, Blake Frazier 234th in 23:44, Nate McCabe 252nd in 25:10, Jeremy Marsh 256th in 25:56 and Alex Bradshaw 260th in 27:12.

For the Lady Hurricane, Tristin Vail was 45th in 21:44, Ali Dooley was 82nd in 22:52 and Hailey Fugate was 87th in 23:07.

Also, Jordan Snarr was 112th in 23:52, Lori Hensley 116th in 24:07, Sarah Wright 131st in 24:29, Mary Putman 143 in 24:53 and Jessica Angst 186th in 27:12.
