Falcons, Mineer fall short in state golf bid

BEAVERCREEK – The Clinton-Massie boys golf team came up short Monday in its bid for the state golf tournament.

In the Division II Southwest District tournament at Beavercreek Golf Club, the Falcons were sixth with a 351 team total. Oakwood was the final team to qualify for the state with a 342 team total.

Summit Country Day was the overall team champion with a 338. Kettering Alter was runnerup with a 341.

The tournament started on Thursday but was halted by a steady downpour. Play resumed on Monday.

Individually, Keith Mineer posted the low score for the Falcons with an 80, again narrowly missing a berth in the state tournament. Dylan Stevens of Wyoming shot a 77 and was the third qualifier to the state.

Grant Engle of Shawnee was tournament medalist with a 73 while Greeneview freshman Mason Witt was runnerup with a 76.

Also for Clinton-Massie, Max Carnevale was 14th overall with an 84 (48-36). He was followed by Cam Collett with an 87 (45-42), Alex Burnham with a 100 (51-49) and Nick Young with a 106 (59-47).
